Cream / Black 'Pepper' New Balance 550 Review
The 'Cream' or ‘Pepper’ New Balance 550 is the latest colourway to sell out across Australian stores. Is this pair a cop or a drop?
This colourway is the quintessence of modern sneaker trends as New Balance incorporates a muted palette on a trendy silhouette. This New Balance 550 is perfect for women or men to wear as its simple colours will work with almost any outfit while still looking unique on feet. Unlike most of the other pairs we have reviewed, this pair is a Mens release meaning sizing goes all the way from US4 to US14. In women’s sizing, that is a Womens 5.5 all the way up to a Womens 15.5
If you’re somewhat intrigued by this pair and perhaps interested in how to style the New Balance 550, we’ve got you sorted down below.
The best aspect of this ‘cream/black’ 550 is the mismatched grey and black outsole resting against the cream midsole. This lighter grey remakes an appearance on the basketball embossed tongue as well as featuring as an accent on the rear quarter panels. The black spotted on the outsole also rests near the tongue and sock liner while also being layered just above the midsole. Finally we get to the namesake colour, the ‘cream’ on this pair is minimally used as an accent for the New Balance logo featured on the side panel of the sneaker. Unlike most other 550 colourways, the primary colour on this release allows the other colours to shine rather than take the spotlight.
The best way of describing this colourway is that the palette rests in harmony with its counterparts. Although a bit less vibrant and far from an extraordinary release, this colourway is a great starting point for those beginning their sneaker collection in addition to those who have 10+ pairs chaotically stuffed in their wardrobe. The best comparison to another shoe we can make is a grey/coloured in swoosh Air Force One. It may not be as unique as the protection pack 2002rs but that does not make them any less of a cop!
If you're convinced you now need a pair, disappointingly they are mostly out of stock in most leading retailers but you can still secure a pair from our store with peace of mind that they are 100% authentic and new stock here!
